Man United want James Maddison and finally, I can say that with some certainty. The story comes from Sky Sports News, who states that the Red Devils are interested in signing the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.
However, it does come with a small caveat. United remain wary that it’s difficult to conclude big transfers in the January transfer window. Make no mistake about it, acquiring Maddison would be a huge deal if the 20-time Premier League champions could pull it off.
We’ve been banging the Maddison to Old Trafford drum for a fair while. Our positive thoughts about the young Englishman only intensified when we discovered that he’s actually a Manchester United fan himself.
As Sky write in their piece, Maddison ticks all the boxes of the type of player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been looking at. Young, English and only improving.
Midfield is the problem position right now. The lack of chance creation is just alarming and with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay both out injured, the time is now for United to invest.
If there’s even a slim chance that United could push this deal over the line in January then they should go all out and do it. However, it does look extremely unlikely. Leicester aren’t going to be best pleased at the idea of losing another player to the Manchester club within the space of six months.
I guess for now all we can do is hope that United can pull a deal off, if not now then definitely over the summer as this boy is a proper player.
