There’s around six weeks left in the summer transfer window and so far, Manchester United have only added Daniel James to the squad.
In what simply has to be a hugely important summer for the Reds, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to be given at least a few more signings.
Yesterday, reports threw a new name into the mix. It comes from Spain, namely Marca, who say that United are interested in signing 22-year-old Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo.
Apparently, Liverpool are also keen in signing the Spain U21 international, who has a €50m (£45m) release clause in his current contract. Jurgen Klopp sees him as good competition for Andy Robertson, while presumably, Solskjaer is after someone to push Luke Shaw hard for the starting job.
Marca say that if the right offer is presented, Betis won’t stand in Firpo’s way, but for me, I’d much [prefer to see United go all-out to sign a right-back at this point. That’s the real position of need and maybe go after a second left-sided defender afterwards.
Firpo has made 35 appearances for Betis over the last two seasons, scoring five goals in that time. Without knowing too much about the young man, he’s definitely a full-back who loves to get forward!
