Man United apparently have eyes on signing Marcelo Brozovic.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will now have to sit on our bad form for the next fortnight due to the international break. Obviously, that’s a less than ideal situation.
The squad itself is in good shape. However, there’s one problem area that remains – central midfield. Outside of Scott McTominay, we don’t really have any reliable defensive midfielders – and that’s an issue.
It’s understandable then, that the Old Trafford club are constantly being linked with moves for players in that area. Today, a new name has entered the fray – Marcelo Brozovic.
The story comes from La Gazzetta dello Sport, with the translation coming from Stretty News. They’re claiming that United are interested in signing the 28-year-old midfielder, who currently plies his trade for Inter Milan.
Apparently, United are ‘locked in battle’ to sign the player, with Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur also keen on acquiring the Croatia international.
After arriving at Inter six years ago, Brozovic has truly emerged as a real key player in that dressing room. However, the Serie A outfit are running the risk of losing the midfielder for free next summer as his contract is winding down.
In these situations, Inter either have to sell in January for a reduced fee, convince the player to sign a new contract or let him go for nothing next summer. Obviously, they’d prefer him to commit his future but that’s easier said than done if the player has his heart set on a move away.
From a United standpoint, this interest makes perfect sense. Brozovic would likely be a big upgrade on what we already have at our disposal and he’d come on the cheap, too. I’d like to think we’d make this move in January, in order to try and push City, Liverpool and Chelsea all the way in a title race.
