Man United are weighing up a move to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton this summer.
The Frenkie de Jong dream looks dead. Heck, acquiring the Dutchman was proving difficult before Manchester United started their campaign with two pretty awful defeats.
It’s meant that Erik ten Hag has had to turn his attention elsewhere. One young man who caught the eye during our Premier League opener was Moises Caicedo.
The Ecuador international bossed it in midfield, leading United to consider Caicedo as a possible transfer target.
Now, Sky Sports News have backed up that initial claim, adding that United are now ‘interested’ in signing the defensive midfielder.
Any move will be difficult as Brighton have ‘no intention’ of selling Caicedo, with their policy being only letting players leave at the right price. Just ask Chelsea and Manchester City about that, with the former having to fork up big bucks to acquire Marc Cucurella.
Sky claim that United will have ‘international discussions’ about whether to make their interest form with an ‘official bid’ in the defensive midfielder.
Caicedo has enjoyed a real rise to prominence over the last twelve months or so, with the player really proving his worth for both club and country.
It’s going to be super tough to lure Caicedo away from Brighton this summer, though. They’ve already lost the aforementioned Cucurella, as well as letting Yves Bissouma head to Tottenham Hotspur. Would Graham Potter really want to lose a third key player? I’m not so sure.
The problem for United is that Caicedo’s value is only going to increase. This is a young man who is getting better and better, while if he has a good World Cup over the winter, his value will skyrocket further.
You also have to consider whether Caicedo would actually want the move right now. United’s struggles are evident. Why would he leave an improving Brighton side for a struggling club?
