Man United interested in signing Ramy Bensebaini: report

Man United are looking at Borussia Monchengladbach full-back, Ramy Bensebaini, as a potential Luke Shaw replacement.

It goes without saying, the upcoming summer is a huge one for Manchester United.

Not only is a new manager going to be hired, but the squad has to undergo a pretty big makeover if the Red Devils are intent on winning trophies.

Defensively, it has been an absolute shambles this year. That’s despite the addition of Raphael Varane. The full-backs have been largely underwhelming, with the club board seemingly looking to upgrade in that position.

Enter, Ramy Bensebaini. The claim comes from Fichajes, who state that United are interested in signing the 26-year-old full-back. The Algerian is viewed as a potential replacement for Luke Shaw.

Bensebaini currently plies his trade for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, with the defender improving year-on-year.

Although Shaw had an excellent 2020/21 campaign, you do feel as though the Englishman has taken a step back this time around. Be it after a tough summer away at the European Championships, or the fact that he’s just regressing naturally, knows?

Then we have Alex Telles. I can never fault his effort but I don’t think he’s been anywhere near as good as we’d all hoped. The performances are just too inconsistent from the Brazilian, hence, a change is needed.

Is Benseabaini a massive upgrade? I have no idea. I do feel confident in saying that he cannot be any worse than Telles and Shaw, though.

I’d also wager Ralf Rangnick has had an input into this potential signing. After all, he’ll be moving upstairs in a consultancy role after this campaign – so it’d make sense to tap into his German football knowledge here.

Would a Man United move for Ramy Bensebaini make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
