Man United are interested in signing Brest midfielder, Romain Faivre.
As we all know, Paul Pogba’s long-term Manchester United future still remains up in the air. The Mercurial Frenchman has a deal which expires in 2022’s summer. It’s looking increasingly unlikely he won’t renew.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to be ahead of the curve on this one. Replacing a player with Pogba’s talent is never easy so it’s up to the Old Trafford club to do as best they can in that regard.
Well, a new name has been thrown into the ring over the last 24 hours or so. It comes from Le10Sport, transcribed via The Sun on Sunday. It’s claimed that United are interested in the 22-year-old midfielder, Romain Faivre.
Faivre, has been one of Ligue 1’s ‘surprise standouts’ according to The Sun. So-much-so that United face competition from none other than Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the youngster.
The midfielder only cost his current side Brest £450,000 in the summer transfer window. Now the Ligue 1 outfit are already expecting to make heavy profit on the ever-improving Faivre.
In nineteen appearances across all competitions this term, Faivre has scored four goals and three assists, including netting a late-winner against Lyon in Ligue 1.
How much would Romain Faivre cost Man United?
For Brest, contingency plans have already been made, with Faivre signing a new contract until 2025 on Christmas Eve. Simply put, they’re trying to protect the value of their asset – which makes perfect sense.
That means he wouldn’t come cheap for the Red Devils, though I’m not sure opting for someone so young is the move to make at this point in time.
Personally, I’d prefer to see United go for someone proven. There should be no risk-taking involved when trying to replace someone like Pogba, while a move for Faivre would be a gamble.
