Man United interested in signing Thomas Meunier, would cost £26.5m: report

Earlier in the week, we covered a story from La Derniere Heure, who claimed that Manchester United were trying to complete a deal for Thomas Meunier ‘quickly’.

Today, the usually reliable ESPN have backed up the aforementioned story from Belgium, stating that United are interested in signing the out-of-favour 27-year-old from Paris Saint-Germain.

Apparently, Arsenal are also interested in signing the Belgian, with PSG open to a sale of around €30m (£26.5m) amid Meunier entering into his final year under contract.

The right-back has suffered a strained relationship with the fans while a lack of playing time hasn’t helped the situation.

ESPN go on to add that both United and Arsenal have already registered their interest, with United seeing Meunier as a cheaper option to Crystal Palace full-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

PSG’s asking price is more realistic for United rather than Arsenal, immediately giving the Red Devils a head start in the chase.

For me, this deal makes perfect sense. It’s relatively cheap and Meunier would be the first-choice right-back as soon as he walks through the Old Trafford door.

I just don’t see any bust potential in this signing as the bar has been set so low by Ashley Young over the last twelve months. Let’s stop messing around and push this deal over the line, giving Meunier ample time to settle into life in Manchester before jetting off on pre-season tour.
