Man United join Dusan Vlahovic race: report

Man United have added Dusan Vlahovic to their list of potential transfer targets.

Old Trafford has played host to some lovely football this season, though the lack of a real prolific striker has cost Manchester United any genuine shot at a title challenge.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has built a decent squad, however, there is still much work to do for the Baby Faced Assassin. This summer could well be crucial for our Norwegian manager and his long-term future at the helm of United.

Perhaps adding a striker, particularly with Edinson Cavani’s future remaining unclear, should be atop the priority list. Enter, Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbian, who has already amassed five caps for his country, has seen his stock rise after an excellent season. Several European big-boys are starting to take note.

The story comes from Corriere dello Sport‘s Thursday print edition, translated by Sport Witness. Apparently, United have entered the race to sign the striker, who has 12 goals in 27 appearances this season, for a struggling Fiorentina side no less.

United won’t have it all their own way if they do decide to move for Vlahovic, though. They’ll face competition as it’s claimed the ‘sirens from top European clubs have already started to ring strongly’, with Real Madrid and Liverpool named as potential candidates.

I’ll admit, stories like these worry me. Vlahovic is doing well but the Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish. I don’t doubt the talent is there, but is he exactly what United need right now?

Personally, I’d much prefer to see the Old Trafford club go after someone who can make an instant impact, someone who’ll guarantee 20+ league goals a season. It doesn’t even have to be the top-drawer names like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland, either. What’s wrong with making a move for, say, Danny Ings or someone of that ilk?

I get it, money is tight this summer, but if the Glazer’s go out there and spend significantly to help Solskjaer, I don’t see any reason why we can’t challenge for a title in 2021-2022.
