Erik ten Hag could look to bolster his Man United squad with a surprise move for Christian Eriksen.
Manchester United’s squad culling is well underway. We’re rapidly approaching double figures in terms of outbound players this summer.
The majority of supporters will say that this major overhaul is absolutely necessary. Though everyone will be in agreement that fresh faces are required to replace those who are departing.
It already feels like we’ve been linked with pretty much every name under the sun, though the stories continue to hit the back pages. Over the weekend, the latest face to be linked with a potential Old Trafford switch is Christian Eriksen.
It’s The Mirror with the story, who, on Saturday, claimed that United have ‘joined the race’ to sign Eriksen on a free transfer.
Understandably, Ten Hag is looking to bolster his squad with fresh recruits, with the Dutchman looking for midfield reinforcements. The new United boss is looking to stretch his budget as far as possible, hence why a move for Eriksen on a free signing could make sense.
As per the report, Ten Hag was left ‘hugely impressed’ by the midfielder during his time at Brentford over the last six months. Eriksen’s ‘desire’ and ‘performances under Thomas Frank’ have strengthened the belief that the Dane can help United get back to their best.
Brentford have actually offered Eriksen a deal that’d see him become their highest-paid player, with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton also showing interest in bringing in the 30-year-old.
First and foremost, Eriksen is one of those players that you just have to root for. It was a sad day when the Dane went down during the European Championships. Seeing him playing football, at the highest level, is absolutely sensational.
For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, this feels like a shrewd piece of business. After losing both Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic already, United need experienced players in midfield. Eriksen certainly fits that bill and he’d be able to dip in and out of the starting line-up when needed.
