Man United have entered the fray for the acquisition of young Leicester City centre-back, Ben Nelson.
Although Manchester United have struggled mightily at senior level, the Old Trafford club are doing things right at both U23 and U18 age groups.
Credit must go to the staff behind the scenes, who have done their utmost to sign top-class talents, then coaching them day-in-day-out to ensure they take that next step.
It’s why it makes sense then, to keep going down that route. At the end of the day, it’s where United have excelled over the years so why not continue that mantra?
Well, I’m pleased to report the club are continuing that trend. The latest name to be linked with an Old Trafford move is Leicester City’s Ben Nelson, with Pete O’Rourke providing the information.
Apparently United have entered ‘the race’ to sign the talented centre-half, though the competition to acquire his signature is stiff. Newcastle United and Manchester City are both credited with interest.
There’s no better place for a young player to hone his trade in this country than United. And that’s a hill I will die on forever.
United give chances to the next generation more than any other club in the Premier League. Nelson could well be the next to benefit from that and if he’s smart, he’ll seriously consider a move to the Theatre of Dreams over the Etihad Stadium – despite the lack of Champions League football on offer.
He’ll be watching the FA Youth Cup success we had as the benchmark, though. Beating out the likes of Rhys Bennett from the side will not be easy for Nelson to do, even if he does choose the Red half of Manchester.
