Manchester United Football Club are set for an all-important summer transfer window. Today, a new name has been linked with a Red Devils switch; Lille defender Gabriel.
The story comes from the Daily Mirror, who state that United have joined the race to sign the talented 22-year-old.
Previously, Everton looked ‘red hot favourites’ to acquire the Brazilian in a £20million deal. Now they face serious competition…
United, Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are all keen on signing the defender who ‘could be available for a bargain price’.
So why the United interest?
Well, United are ‘ready to sell’ Chris Smalling to AS Roma, though currently, the Serie A club are only offering £12m. The Reds are demanding more, they want closer to £20m.
With Phil Jones constantly injured and Marcos Rojo edging towards a permanent exit from Old Trafford, there’s definitely an opening.
You also remain worried about Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly, who have struggled to keep themselves fit this season.
£20million for such a talent feels like a steal. However, there’s always a concern that players cannot adapt to the Premier League’s style of play. I guess there’s only one way to find out, though.
In this weird transfer market, where money is tight due to COVID-19, I’d expect United to look more at these potential bargain signings as opposed to making several huge splashes.
I’m not going to sit here and wax lyrical about Gabriel. I’ve never seen him play but we have to trust Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Baby Faced Assassin has made some brilliant signings and until he let’s us down, he has my full backing.
In a little snippet at the end, The Mirror also reiterated United’s long-term interest in Jadon Sancho. We have all the latest updates on that rumour for you here.
