Man United join race to sign Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang

Man United have entered the race to acquire ex-Arsenal striker, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

Manchester United Football Club may well have no choice but to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave.

The Portugal international doesn’t want to be here, while replacing his goal output was never going to be easy. The Red Devils have looked at the likes of Alvaro Morata and Marko Arnautovic, though those two deals don’t seem to be on the table anymore.

Now, a new (but familiar) name has been thrown into the mix; Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

The ex-Arsenal striker currently plies his trade for FC Barcelona over in La Liga, though their financial woes may mean that the Gabon internaitonal may well have to be moved on.

It’s journalist Gerard Romero with the scoop, who states that United have ‘joined the bid’ to sign the 33-year-old forward. Aubameyang is also wanted by Chelsea, who continue to push ‘hard’ to acquire the striker.

Romero does state that Xavi would like to keep Aubameyang at the Camp Nou for the 2022/23 season.

This is certainly a weird one. Aubameyang often blew hot and cold during his time at Arsenal, while the way his time in North London ended definitely leaves us with a real reason to be somewhat concerned.

Perhaps it was just a change in scenery that was required, which could explain why he ended up becoming really frustrated at Arsenal. However, I’m still not sure that’s the sort of personality United should be looking to bring it right now.

The problem is, there are not many options left. If Ronaldo leaves, replacing his 20+ goal-a-season guarantee is going to be supremely difficult. In the end, it may well be a team effort, with all our forwards having to add those extra few goals each.
