Man United are getting closer to agreeing a move that would bring Raphael Varane to Old Trafford.
As we all know, amongst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority list this summer is a new centre-back. Harry Maguire has been absolutely unbelievable, but he needs that perfect partner.
Raphael Varane has often been linked with a move to United this summer, with his time at Real Madrid looking like it’s drawing to a close.
According to ABC, with some input and translation coming from the MEN Live Blog, United are just £4.3m (€5m) short of the asking price to sign the top-class 28-year-old.
Apparently, the MEN understand that Varane is ‘keen’ on a move to Old Trafford as he wants a new challenge in his career. If he was watching EURO 2020, he’ll also have been impressed by Maguire, who he could be playing alongside next season.
it goes without saying, Varane would be a considerable upgrade on United’s current options in the centre-half position. He’s quick, great in the air and willing to put his body on the line for the cause.
Solskjaer needs someone who he can put 100% trust in to not make a daft mistake as so many goals were needlessly conceded last season – which prematurely ended our title challenge.
Improving in that position could be the difference between pushing City all the way, while the hope is that if signed, Varane would have a similar impact to that of Virgil van Dijk and Ruben Dias.
Now, it’s down to United to not dilly-dally and push this deal through. Varane is a sought-after commodity and I’m sure the likes of Paris Saint-Germain will have something to say about the Frenchman’s eventual destination.
