Man United are keen on signing Bayern Munich youngster, Mathys Tel.

Manchester United should move back to their former strategy of signing younger players. It has worked before. It will work again. This club does not excel when spending big money on marquee signings. The proof is in the pudding.

Perhaps INEOS will look to reintegrate the Reds’ old tactics. Perhaps money being tight may well speed up that process. No longer can this club throw cash around aimlessly in the hope of making things stick.

Not too long ago, the Reds were linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. The young man is growing frustrated at present, with his future up in the air right now.

Now, Sport Bild have provided an update on Tel’s future, claiming that United are still keen on signing the 18-year-old starlet. Arsenal are also showing an interest in the forward.

There can be no doubt that Tel would be a sublime piece of business for any club who could prise him out of Bayern’s grasp. However, we’ll start by saying this, I struggle to see any sense in the German club letting such a mega-talent leave.

The recent Thomas Tuchel news probably plays into the club’s hands, too, as Tel would be more willing to stay and see if he’s a part of the new manager’s plans next season.

Part of me thinks this is his agent trying to force Bayern’s hand, with the player having no intention of leaving Bavaria anytime soon.

From a United standpoint, we also have to be realistic about our own situation. If it’s a straight choice between United and Arsenal, there’s a clear winner right now and it’s not the Old Trafford club. First and foremost, Erik ten Hag has to guide this side into a top four finish, which looks unlikely after the most recent Luke Shaw injury news.

Bringing in Tel would also likely hamper the development of Alejandro Garnacho, though on the flip side, it’d mean even fewer minutes for Antony…

Do you think a Man United move to sign Mathys Tel would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
