Man United keen on signing Varane, Real aware of Reds interest: report

Man United are still pushing hard to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

It goes without saying, Harry Maguire needs a new centre-back partner. The Old Trafford club have persisted with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly for far too long, when it’s blatantly clear neither are good enough.

That’s where Raphael Varane comes into play. We’ve been linked with a move for the Frenchman on numerous occasions already, while a deal seems to be a genuine possibility.

The latest update in the saga comes from Cadena Ser, they state that United are keen on signing the top-class 28-year-old, who is ready to move away from Real Madrid.

Furthermore, Los Blancos ‘know of interest’ in Varane from United, while the Frenchman’s contract is almost entering into the final year.

Simply put, Madrid have a pretty big decision to make. They either cash in now while Varane still has some market value. Or, risk losing him for nothing in twelve months’ time.

For United, it goes without saying this would be an unbelievable piece of business if the club could somehow pull it off. I’ll be honest, though, I see Paris Saint-Germain as the front-runners. A move back home, to a club where trophies are virtually a guarantee, may be an offer that’s just too good to turn down.

It’s down to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to do all he can to try and persuade Varane to head to Manchester instead, though he has my sympathy as that’s far easier said than done given the PSG ties.

If the deal doesn’t look like happening, it’s down to United to recognise that as quickly as possible, leaving enough time for Solskjaer to pursue other centre-half targets.
