Man United are looking to bring in a new forward, in order to ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund.
Last summer, Manchester United spent big to bring in Rasmus Hojlund. The Dane, who was impressing for Serie A side Atalanta, came in with big expectations due to the hefty price-tag.
From minute one, it felt like United had a gem. Although the goals weren’t flowing, his work ethic, hold-up ability, team play and sheer skill was on full display. I’ve never been less worried about a striker that wasn’t scoring week-in-week-out.
He’s now silenced those doubters with some outstanding form over the last month or so. Long may that continue, with the boyhood United fan absolutely loving life at Old Trafford.
Next season, though, he may get some help. In a detailed ESPN article about a massive upcoming summer window, we’ve honed in on their information about Hojlund, with the Reds looking to provide help for the striker.
Apparently, United are ‘keen’ to manage the workload of the in-form star, by bringing in a player to help ease the burden. Presumably, this summer, the club will look to add another striker to their ranks.
Ten Hag and INEOS want to reduce the need for Hojlund to start every game. Not only will that take a toll on his body, but also mentally, it’s tough to keep going at the elite level for prolonged periods of time.
Hojlund has solely carried the burden this season. Anthony Martial has typically been injured for large chunks of the campaign, while it’s common knowledge by now that Marcus Rashford is an infinitely better player out wide.
In terms of options, I’d assume United will not go for a marquee name who’d threaten to push Hojlund out of the side completely. What’s more likely is a middle-tier signing who will not start every game, but can come in and do a top job when necessary. I think about the role that Julian Alvarez plays for Manchester City as the best comparison.
