Man United keeping a close eye on Edinson Cavani, pushing with insistence: report

Odion Ighalo’s input at Manchester United has been nothing short of brilliant. However, doubts remain about whether he’s the long-term solution to a void that needs filling.

The Nigerian, aged 30, is paid handsomely by Shanghai Shenhua, who’ll undoubtedly want their star striker back sooner rather than later – meaning the Red Devils may have to look elsewhere.

Well, according to L’Equipe’s Saturday print edition, translated via Sport Witness, Edinson Cavani may well be that man…

According to their report, United are ‘keeping a close eye’ on the 33-year-old, while they’re ‘pushing with insistence’ for the player who’d be a free agent acquisition should the deal happen.

L’Equipe (Saturday print)

Cavani has spent the last sevens seasons in the French capital with PSG, though the Ligue 1 giants are yet to offer the veteran a new deal.

Understandably, he’s attracting interest aplenty, with the Red Devils seemingly looking at potentially moving for the Uruguay star.

Not many clubs will be able to afford Cavani’s wages, though L’Equipe explain that United are ‘backed by huge financial resources’, though a lack of Champions League football may complicate things.

Again, with the global pandemic that’s currently happening, things can change extremely quickly. Money may be tight for some clubs, while Cavani would command a huge wage. Is that really a route United want to take for a player who’s best years are undoubtedly behind him…?
