Man United are still keeping a watchful eye on the Youri Tielemans situation.
Although the January transfer window is still open, you get the feeling that Manchester United are probably done on the transfer front for this month.
Planning for the summer is underway, with Erik ten Hag looking to further implement his style on this squad, though further signings are absolutely needed.
Names aplenty have been linked. One man who is consistently mentioned in the same sentence as Manchester United is Youri Tielemans. The Belgian, whose contract expires this summer, finds himself back in the headlines.
It’s Give Me Sport with the claim, in a column from Fabrizio Romano. According to the report, United is ‘keeping an eye on the market’, regarding the 25-year-old midfielder.
Basically, right now, United still have Tielemans (among others) under serious consideration.
When asked directly about the Tielemans links, Romano said:
“They’re keeping an eye on the market.” Romano told Give Me Sport.
“I think it is normal if there is something interesting that could attract the manager.”
As discussed earlier, this feels like an easy link to make. United need another midfielder. Tielemans is a top-quality footballer, who the club have been linked with in the past.
I can see why Ten Hag likes him. Creativity, good on the ball, a hard worker and more than anything, a top-class talent.
On a free transfer, this could be an astute piece of business, just like how Christian Eriksen was signed.
I can imagine there being plenty of parties interested in signing Tielemans, which could prove to be a stumbling block. You’d imagine he’ll be looking to take that next step, so a Champions League side will most likely win the race. This is just another reason why it’s vital United finish inside the top four.
