Man United keeping tabs on Burnley’s Dwight McNeil: report

Manchester United Football Club are in need of new signings as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to continue his Red Devils squad overhaul.

The Baby Faced Assassin’s mantra has been clear – sign young, preferably British players who can make an impact in the long-term rather than being a quick fix.

Anyway today, a new name has been thrown into the ring and it’s certainly one that fits the bill. The story comes from The Sun, who state that United are looking at Burnley’s Dwight McNeil.

Apparently, the Reds are ‘keeping tabs on the £35m Burnley winger’ – five years after dumping the 19-year-old from their academy for not being up to standards…

Now, the Englishman from Rochdale has been amongst Burnley’s best performers over the last twelve months or so – and it’d be typical United for them to try and bring him back for a pretty huge transfer fee.

Solskjaer is seemingly a big fan of McNeil’s, having sent scouts to watch the England U21 international on numerous occasions as he looks to continue improving this United squad.

As we all know, chance creation has been a problem for United all season and there’s no doubt McNeil would help in that regard. He’s also pretty good when it comes to set pieces – another area in which the 20-time Premier League champions need serious help…

The deal would probably have to wait until next summer, though, as McNeil could well be key to Burnley’s survival hopes…
