Man United have added Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde to their list of potential transfer targets.

As we all know, Paul Pogba’s Manchester United future remains up in the air. The Frenchman has been in great form recently, though my personal view is that he’s still set to depart Old Trafford this summer.

With that in mind, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some planning to do in regards to filling that large hole in midfield when the time eventually comes. Well, it looks as though Federico Valverde is being eyed as that man…

The story comes from The Sun in the form of an exclusive. Apparently, United have watched the 22-year-old on a number of occasions. With scouts ‘ramping up’ their efforts this season.

Valverde, from Uruguay, has impressed this season despite injury issues recently. While the midfielder is on United’s list of targets, with Valverde’s versatility being a key selling point.

It’s reiterated Valverde is being looked at as a potential Pogba replacement. The Sun also discuss the idea of a potential swap deal that’d see our Frenchman head to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Valverde is young and improving. He’s exactly the sort of player United need right now. Sure, Pogba has done well over the last few months but his time in Manchester has been largely underwhelming.

Although his personality, brand and positive demeanour will be missed, I’m not convinced losing his on-field football skills is as big-a-blow as is being made out right now.

In terms of Valverde, he wouldn’t be cheap, but he’s exactly the sort of player Solskjaer has shown a preference towards signing with his long-term goals in mind.

Would a Man United move for Federico Valverde make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
