Manchester United are keeping a watch on Gremio midfielder Arthur, as his proposed move to FC Barcelona has stalled, reports the Daily Mail.
The extremely talented 21-year-old has a £45million release clause in his current contract, with Chelsea also interested in signing the Brazilian who is beginning to make a name for himself in his homeland.
Gremio would apparently be willing to sell Arthur for somewhere around the £30-35million mark, which could well be considered cheap in the modern transfer market.
One thing seems clear: Manchester United are trying to sign another central midfielder, presumably to free up Paul Pogba, allowing him to play more of an offensive role in games.
Is Arthur the answer? I’m not sure. He’s a player that I’ve not watched much, but you have to trust Jose Mourinho’s work in the transfer market, as he’s been quite flawless with his Red Devils dealings thus far.
If I’m being picky, I would prefer to see us sign a ready-made player rather than someone who’ll need time to develop, grow and adapt to the rigorous Premier League style of play.
