Man United lead Pape Sarr transfer race: report

Man United have eyed midfielder Pape Sarr as a potential transfer target.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has displayed a preference towards signing young players who can make an impact over multiple years. Look at the Amad Diallo acquisition as the key example of that.

Now, the Baby Faced Assassin is looking to pull off that trick again at Manchester United, with a potential move for Pape Sarr.

Sarr currently plies his rade for Frech club Metz, for whom he is having an excellent breakthrough season. Now, The Sun give their take on his future.

Apparently, United are ‘on the trail’ of the 18-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who only made his first-team debut for Metz back in November.

United are amongst the sides who have watched him regularly, though they’ll face competition from Nice, who are said to be ‘pulling out all the stops’ to sign the emerging midfielder.

In terms of his contract, Sarr only signed a five-year deal just last summer, so it may take a pretty penny to prise him away from the Ligue 1 outfit this summer.

I do get the impression United are looking at bringing in at least one reinforcement in that holding/deeper midfield role, which makes sense given Nemanja Matic’s age.

Whether or not Sarr is someone who can come in and play regularly remains to be seen, which is why I’d still prefer to see the Red Devils make a move for someone like Declan Rice.

Sarr is no doubt talented, though I’m not sure he’d be the difference-maker as we look to challenge for a Premier League title in the 2021/22 term. That has to be our number one aim right now.
