Manchester United are undoubtedly heading in a positive direction, though there is still much work ahead for the Red Devils.
Amongst the priorities for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is adding some quality in attack. Jack Grealish’s name has been linked with an Old Trafford switch fairly frequently and today we’ve another update on that front.
The story comes from the Daily Mail, who state that United are leading the race to sign the 24-year-old star. However, Grealish definitely won’t come cheap, with Aston Villa to ‘demand’ £80million to let their prized asset leave.
It goes without saying that Grealish would dramatically improve the playing squad at United, though at what cost?
Football, like every other industry, has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Money may be a little tighter for everyone going into this summer and United’s spending may be significantly lower.
I would imagine £80million probably wasn’t what they had in mind for Grealish, particularly if the Midlands outfit finds themselves relegated at the season’s end.
United have to be savvy about this. Don’t overpay while Villa are still a Premier League club, but pounce if they eventually go down. Make no mistake about it, Grealish won’t want to spend another season in the Championship and eventually, Villa will be forced into selling. The Red Devils just have to make sure they’re ready…
