Man United leading the race to sign Hakim Ziyech

Man United are at the front of the queue when it comes to signing Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech.

Losing Cristiano Ronaldo will likely be a good thing for Manchester United in the long-term – as weird as that sounds.

Replacing the Portugal international in January was always going to be tough. Cody Gakpo is the name most-linked.

However, reports from Italy have thrown a new name into the ring; Hakim Ziyech.

It’s Calciomercato with the story. Thanks to Sport Witness for the translation.

Ziyech, who scored for Morocco at the World Cup earlier this week, is having a tough time of it at Chelsea under Graham Potter.

A move away from Stamford Bridge in January makes sense, with United regarded as the side ‘in first place’ in the race to sign the 29-year-old Premier League man.

It’s said that AC Milan are also keen on bringing in the versatile attacker, though United are currently leading the charge. On top of that, the Serie A side are looking for a loan deal with a right to buy, worth around £13m total. That’s relatively cheap in this day and age.

Ziyech has worked with Ten Hag before, with great success at Ajax. No doubt that’s where the interest in the attacker comes from. It’d allow Ziyech to slot straight into the side from day one as he’s already familiar with the system and tactics.

OTF’s view

This would be a logical transfer. Ziyech knows the Premier League, is relatively inexpensive and he’d bring some experience to a pretty young dressing room now that Ronaldo is no longer here.

This is as risk-free as it gets in the modern-day game, so why not pull the trigger?
