Man United left with no choice but to extend Nemanja Matic’s deal: report

Manchester United Football Club activated a one-year contract extension within Nemanja Matic’s deal not too long ago – after an up-turn in form from the Serbian.

Well, the Red Devils could be about to take that one step further. The story comes from the Daily Mail on Saturday, who state that United have been ‘left with no choice’ but to extend the 31-year-old’s deal following a ‘remarkable turnaround’.

The article states that Matic looked to be on his way out of Old Trafford during the January transfer window, though obviously, United wanted to protect their asset by giving the Serb a further twelve months in Reds colours.

The Daily Mail also adds that Matic’s turnaround was largely down to Bruno Fernandes’ arrival. Sure, the Portuguese has definitely helped, but that takes away from the hard-work, graft and determination that Matic showed. Don’t forget that he wouldn’t have had those opportunities without an injury suffered by Scott McToinay, either…

First and foremost, it’s about Matic. He has been brilliant for the last few months and long may that continue. Perhaps he needed to be displaced by McTominay in the team to rediscover that fire in his belly. Right now, we’re reaping the rewards and I’d have no problem with the Reds extending his deal for a further twelve months again, keeping him upon Salford Quays until 2022.
