Manchester United Football Club have often been criticised for the lack of a Director of Football.

These days, the Red Devils are in the Premier League minority without one. However, that could well change in the future. Edward Woodward just isn’t a footballing person – although he is great at his job.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, bookmakers including Oddschanger have installed Eric Cantona as the favourite to land the DoF role at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman now sits at even money to be given the Theatre of Dreams position with the club still considering creating the job opening.

Cantona, now 52, is an absolute Red Devils legend. After retiring from football in 1997, the charismatic figure has kept himself in the public eye doing various TV bits every now and then, but he hasn’t really ever got himself back into the beautiful game.

Bringing him back to United would be a masterstroke. He’d have a massive influence at the club and you feel he has enough knowledge to identify and secure the right transfer targets for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

If all else fails, at the very least, it would be a huge morale boost for everyone at United and no doubt the Baby Faced Assassin would welcome him in with open arms.
