Man United could look towards Thomas Tuchel if the Red Devils decide to opt for a new manager.
Manchester United have started their season poorly for the third time in a row under Erik ten Hag. On this occasion, it’s different. There are no more excuses for the Dutchman who has had INEOS’ backing heavily over the summer, signing the players he specifically asked for.
So far, nothing has changed. Liverpool dominated the Red Devils at Old Trafford for 90 minutes, with heads dropping as soon as the 20-time Premier League champions went behind.
Club CEO Omar Berrada has already given Ten Hag his public backing as we head into the international break – which is obviously a positive.
However, behind the scenes, there may be different conversations being held. According to The Mirror, United have eyed Thomas Tuchel as a possible target for the managerial role…
They state that the Reds are ‘likely’ to pursue the 51-year-old if they decide a change in manager is needed.
The Mirror add Ten Hag faces a ‘nervous wait’ about whether he will be kept in charge, though that I wholeheartedly disagree with as it’s far too early to be even having that discussion. I do not mind the club having a contingency plan in place, though nothing is imminent.
Tuchel is currently unemployed after a spell at Bayern Munich, so from a logistical point of view, a move could make sense.
However, this squad is now loaded with Ten Hag players. I’d honestly be surprised if anything happens before the turn of the year. In most scenarios, I envisage Ten Hag will be allowed to see out the season, assuming disaster doesn’t strike and United are stuck in the bottom half of the table.
This all feels a little premature and I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if this story was made up by the media as it all feels too convinient.
