Man United-linked Benjamin Pavard is available for transfer this summer, at a very reasonable price.
Just a week or so ago, Manchester United were credited with interest in Bayern Munich’s versatile defender, Benjamin Pavard.
The Frenchman has found it tough in Bavaria, struggling for any sort of consistent minutes over the last couple of years. Now, it looks as though he could be on the move.
Once again, it’s Florian Plettenberg with the information. He took to Twitter yesterday, to confirm the latest. The reported United target will now be allowed to leave his current club ‘immediately’.
The transfer fee could stand at as little as £25m-£34m (€40-50m), which, for a player of the Frenchman’s calibre, is quite cheap.
As expected, United are not the only interest party. Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Manchester City are also credited with an interest.
Pavard wants a change of scenery this summer, whereas United are looking for a centre-back. Kim Min-jae has been the name most-linked with a Reds switch, but Pavard presents a decent option for a number of reasons.
Not only can he play at centre-back, Pavard could also fill in at right-back if required. That’s another area where Erik ten Hag could look to strengthen. This move could potentially fill two holes with just one player.
Pavard has all the talent and ability, though he’s probably lacking in confidence right now. A change of scenery is exactly what’s required for him and I don’t think it’d take him long to remind us all of his capabilities.
That said, I still believe Min-jae is the frontrunner for the Old Trafford centre-back position. His release clause doesn’t become active until July, so I doubt we’ll hear anything concrete until the South Korean’s next club is determined.
