Man United are one of the sides linked with a move to sign FC Barcelona’s emerging starlet, Ronald Araujo.
Whoever may be in charge come the start of the 2022/23 campaign simply has to be given money to spend this summer.
This squad is jam-packed with talent, though it’s been somewhat thrown together rather than astute signings being made to fit the system being deployed. At the end of the day, you need the right players for the right system. That’s far more important than a dressing room full of stars who aren’t given the proper guidance.
A new centre-back is somehow still a need, despite countless signings being made in that area of the field. Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and even Harry Maguire have all had their struggles. A top-class partner for Raphael Varane is a must.
Now, FC Barcelona’s emerging starlet, Ronald Araujo, appears to be on United’s radar.
It’s Sport who link United with a move for the 22-year-old defender. Who is currently in contract talks with the Camp Nou club over a new deal.
However, Araujo could well have his head turned by United (and Chelsea, who also get a mention in the transfer chase). Apparently, Barca have been met by a ‘stumbling block’ in the form of the English clubs.
Both United and Chelsea ‘can pay double’ what Barca are currently offering Araujo in terms of player wages. I will stress that Sport still seems to have a contract renewal at Barca as the most likely outcome, but a lot can change pretty quickly in football and maybe, just maybe, United can tempt the Uruguayan into a move.
At the very least, it does highlight that the Reds are still intent on further strengthening their defence, though.
