Man United could look to bring in Vincent Aboubakar.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Manchester United terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract last month. Simply put, the Portugal international left the club with no choice.
He’s now collecting massive wages with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, with United left with the task of replacing Ronaldo in the January window.
With the Glazers also looking to sell up, bringing someone in, on big money in particular, always felt like a tough task. Hence, we expected the club to explore the loan market.
It seems as though vincent Aboubakar is the man identified by the Old Trafford club. Ironically, Ronaldo could help us out in this regard.
It’s OKAZ with the claim. Thanks to the Daily Mail for providing the translation.
Al-Nassr have to have a maximum of three overseas players registered in their squad. They’re already at that quota, so right now, they cannot register Ronaldo.
That’s where Aboubakar, who also plays for Al-Nassr currently, comes in.
The club is looking to offload the 30-year-old so they can register CR7. United are amongst the sides interested in signing the player – presumably on a short-term contract or maybe even a loan.
Aboubakar is most well-known for his five-year spell with FC Porto, with the Cameroon international also playing well for his country over a twelve-year period.
There is no doubt that Aboubakar is nothing but a stop-gap. Similar to the Odion Ighalo deal. Is he good enough to start for United? Probably not, but the depth would be nice – particularly if Anthony Martial picked up an injury.
Much like the Jack Butland deal, this just feels like Ten Hag ensuring all bases are covered.
