Man United loanee Alexis Sanchez out until 2020 with ankle injury

Yesterday, we covered a story from Calciomeracto in which it was confirmed that Alexis Sanchez had suffered an ankle injury – and he’d immediately return to Inter Milan, cutting short his international break with Chile.

At that point, we weren’t sure about the severity of the problem. Well, now we’ve been given more details and it’s not good news. According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, the struggling Manchester United loanee has been ruled out until 2020 with the ankle problem…

After scoring two goals on Inter debut, it looked like Sanchez had turned a corner. However, just a few weeks later the Chilean is back sidelined for the foreseeable future – leaving Antonio Conte with a decision to make.

Obviously, Inter are paying a chunk of his wages and in cases like this, the club will probably have the option to send Sanchez back to United and cancel his loan deal early. After all, why would they want to pay (presumably a hefty amount, too) a wage to an injured player?

Being ruled out for the next few months is huge. Following his return, it’d likely take Sanchez a fair amount of time to get fully back up to speed. My best guess is that he wouldn’t be back at 100% until February at the earliest…

Sure, he’d be available for what could well be a title run in for Inter, but again, is he worth the wages? I’m not sure and I personally wouldn’t be surprised to read he’s been sent back ‘home’ at some point over the next day or so.
