Manchester United loanee James Garner is seemingly already pulling up trees in the Championship, with the Englishman impressing early for Watford.
It was pretty common knowledge that United wanted a loan move for Garner. After all, he’s way too good for U23 football at this stage in his career. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly feels he’s not quite ready for first-team football at Old Trafford.
Watford came calling, as they look to immediately bounce back following their Premier League relegation. It’s fair to say they’ve started well, winning two and drawing one of their first three matches.
Garner has played his part in that. Controlling the midfield from deep, playing the passes and getting stuck in. I’ve always felt like he’s a ready-made replacement for Nemanja Matic. Though I probably would have kept him at the club this term – particularly given the lack of signings.
Well, what’s done is done and Garner is playing first-team football. Now, the midfielder, who has made seven appearances for the United first-team, is receiving heavy praise from his manager. Watford boss, Vladimir Ivic, has expressed his delight with Garner, labelling him ‘one of the most talented players in England’.

“He is one of the most talented players in England. He is a quality player with the ball, he knows how to move the ball fast and he thinks fast, which is very important.“ Ivic is quoted as saying by ManUtd.com.
What a confidence-booster this is for the young man. Garner is still so young aged just nineteen, yet he’s been at the club for eleven years. He knows exactly what it takes to make it at United. I don’t doubt he’ll be a regular for many seasons to come.
For now, it’s about tearing up the Championship. He’s started like a house on fire but he has to carry on and maintain that form for the duration of a long season.
I don’t doubt that the Baby Faced Assassin is keeping a close eye on Jimmy Garner, with a view to drafting him into the squad next summer. Who knows, perhaps if he was given the chance to have a full pre-season with United, maybe, just maybe, he’d already be with us.
