Man United locked in battle to say Ilay Elmkies: report

Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s plan at Manchester United has been pretty obvious so far. The Baby Faced Assassin is trying to sign youth and get this club back to what it does best.

It seems as though the Reds are trying to continue that trend, that’s if an exclusive from The Sun turns out to be true anyway… They’re claiming that United are ‘battling’ with Manchester City to sign Hoffenheim midfielder, Ilay Elmkies.

Apparently, the 19-year-old has been compared to Thiago Alcantara, which would certainly explain Pep Guardiola’s keenness in the midfield man.

Elmkies has just one year left on his current deal, meaning the teenager may only cost the eventual winner of his signature just £2.5million. Hoffenheim’s hand may be forced, as they would risk losing him for just a training fee next summer, should they allow his contract to expire.

The man from Israel is obviously highly thought of, although he only played at youth level last season so he’s someone I’ve personally never seen play.

A comparison to Thiago Alcatantara tells you that he’s more offensive-minded than defence-first, although as is always the case with youngsters, you just never know how quickly (or if at all) they’ll develop.

But, United has had large success in this field in the past so I’m all for a move to sign Elmkies should Solskjaer see it fit…
