Man United locked in three-way transfer battle to sign world-class full-back: report

Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea are seemingly locked in a three-way battle to sign the world-class full-back, Jordi Alba.

That’s according to Spanish media outlet AS, translated by The Sun. Apparently, the 29-year-old is locked in contract talks with FC Barcelona, with his current deal set to expire in two years.

It comes as no real surprise to hear United linked with a move for a new left-back. Last season, Ashley Young did a decent job – but nothing more than that. Then you have Luke Shaw, who for whatever reason, just hasn’t been playing.

In terms of left-sided defenders, Alba is right up there in the upper echelons. I think it tells you everything you need to know that three top-level Premier League sides are showing significant interest in acquiring his services.

Alba is quick and great when attacking. However, he doesn’t allow that to get in the way of his defensive duties. Despite being somewhat small in stature, the Spaniard has a huge heart and loves a good physical battle.

In the Premier League, there is no doubt in my mind that he’d flourish. My only concern would be the fact that he’s approaching his thirties, and he’d only be playing at his best for three or four years before he’d need replacing.
