Man United looking at Kim Min-Jae as possible Harry Maguire replacement

Man United are eyeing a move to sign Kim Min-Jae as a possible Harry Maguire replacement.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United squad is slowly starting to be formed. Obviously, it was always going to take numerous transfer windows until the Dutchman is completely happy with the way his dressing room is shaping up.

The summer was a positive one. All Ten Hag’s signings have made an impact. No doubt he’s looking to keep that ball rolling over the next couple of transfer windows.

Not too long ago, we covered a claim suggesting United were interested in Napoli and South Korea international, Kim Min-Jae. Apparently, the Reds were thought to be monitoring his situation.

Now, another report is saying similar. Journalist Carlo Garganese, quoted by Give Me Sport, believes the club are ‘looking at’ the 23-year-old as a possible Maguire replacement. There’s a ‘good chance’ the current club captain will leave at the end of this season, apparently.

Check out what Carlo Garganese had to say in full on Man United interest in Kim Min-Jae:

“I do know that Manchester United are looking at him [Kim Min-jae].” Garganese is quoted as saying.

“Maguire, I think there’s a good chance he will leave at the end of the season so there will be a space, especially with Varane getting injuries, getting on, maybe not being as good as people hoped.”

First and foremost, Maguire leaving feels somewhat inevitable. It’s probably the easiest way to take the captain’s armband off him. If you strip him of the captaincy and keep him around, I can imagine that could cause dressing-room issues.

Maguire is not a bad player. I just worry about his lack of pace in this system where Ten Hag wants his defenders to press high up the pitch. No doubt the eventual buying club will be delighted with their purchase.

Min-Jae, on the other hand, is an elite-level talent. The 26-year-old is perfect for this Ten Hag system while being a direct upgrade on the Englishman Maguire.

Negotiating with Napoli is notoriously difficult, so this transfer fee could raise pretty quickly. In the end, I’d imagine United will have to pay way in excess of £50m. I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal does rapidly approach that £100m mark.
