Manchester United are sweating on the future of Angel Gomes, according to The Sun. The report states that the 17-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford, despite the fact that his current contract expires next summer.
Apparently, the Englishman was expected to sign his first professional deal when he turned 17 last month, and he still hasn’t written his name on the dotted line.
According to the report, FC Barcelona have shown an interest in taking Gomes to the Camp Nou, and you’d imagine that’d turn the head of any up and coming player because their academy is one of the best in the business.
The worry for Manchester United is that they could lose Gomes for a nominal fee, similar to how they lost Paul Pogba to Juventus when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.
Gomes has emerged as one of the hottest prospects we’ve seen coming through the Manchester United academy in recent years, and it’s absolutely key that the club manages to persuade him to sign a new deal here.
He’s already made his Premier League debut when he was just 16 years of age, and that’s a good indicator as to how much confidence manager Jose Mourinho has in him.
