Just a week ago, we covered reported Manchester United interest in Willy Kambwala from France Football.
Well today, we’ve been given another update on the future of the 15-year-old, and it comes from RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi.
He took to Twitter earlier today, to confirm that United have ‘made a first offer’ for the talented centre-back, with the bid believed to be below £1m.
Apparently, United have been following the Sochaux defender for a few weeks and they’ve seemingly firmed up their interest with an official offer.
It’s unclear as to whether Sochaux will accept such a low offer, though we’d imagine it’d probably take a little more to get a deal done.
With Kambwala being U16, no deal would be able to be completed until his sixteenth birthday, which is in late-August, meaning there would be no official movement on that front before then.
With two years left on Kambwala’s current contract, Sochaux aren’t in any rush to make a decision, and who knows when the transfer window will officially open.
What is becoming a trend is United showing an interest in French football’s next-big-thing. From Paul Pogba over a decade ago now, to Hannibal Mejbri just last summer, the Red Devils are certainly keeping one eye across the English Channel.
Again, I can’t sit here and wax lyrical about Kambwala, a player who I’ve never seen play. However, United wouldn’t be interested in signing him for no reason. He must have shown something, somewhere down the line.
I guess the only real concern is that United need someone who can play at centre-back straight away. Willy Kambwala, being only 15, isn’t going to be that guy.
Instead, he’s more of a project who we probably shouldn’t expect to see in the first-team for at least another half-decade. Either way, we have to trust what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing.
