Man United have made an offer to sign Ajax centre-back, Lisandro Martinez.
Erik ten Hag is yet to have been delivered any new signings this summer and we’re now less than a fortnight away from the beginning of pre-season tour.
The Dutchman shouldn’t be too concerned at this early stage, with Manchester United negotiating for several signings behind the scenes. Tyrell Malacia looks close, while Frenkie de Jong still seems obtainable.
Another name the Red Devils have been linked with is Lisandro Martinez.
Well, TyC Sports journalist, Hernan Sisto, has another update for us in pursuit of Martinez. He took to Twitter to confirm United have made their first move to bring in the 24-year-old.
According to Sisto, United have made a £34.6m (€40m) offer to sign the defender, as the English teams ‘wants to take’ the player in exchange for a sizable transfer fee.
Martinez is also being chased by Arsenal, with Premier League interest in the Ajax defender high.
Martinez had spent the last three years with Erik Ten Hag at Ajax, improving season-on-season as a player, winning a couple of Eredivisie titles along the way.
Again, this is a case of United’s new manager looking to surround himself with familiarity going into his first year at Old Trafford.
Martinez is someone who fits the Ten Hag system nicely, though he is rather small in height. I absolutely worry about that in the Premier League, particularly with so many tall strikers up and down the country.
The £35m fee looks to be an initial offer, so I’d be surprised if Ajax accept that straight away without any negotiating. If United are dead-set on Martinez now that Jurrien Timber isn’t looking like joining, they’d probably be expecting to pay £40m+ to bring in the Argentine.
