Man United have made an offer to sign Ederson from Atalanta, though that deal has been turned down by the Serie A club.
It’s now common knowledge that Manchester United are now on the hunt for a defensive midfielder before the transfer deadline. The Old Trafford side have strengthened in other positions, with full focus now on the central area.
Sander Berge was linked. He’s now off to Fulham. Manuel Ugarte is another possibility for the Red Devils, though he’s not the only option.
According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Atalanta’s Ederson remains a player of interest for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Pedulla states that just yesterday, there was a meeting between United and Atalanta representatives, to settle some paperwork over the Rasmus Hojlund signing last summer. However, United were keen to ask about Ederson during that meeting.
The Reds are said to have been ‘following and appreciating’ the midfielder for ‘some time’ now, making a £42m proposal to sign the 25-year-old.
Sadly, Atalanta have refused to part with Ederson at this point, as we approach the final ten days of the transfer window. Presumably, they’d find it tough to sign a replacement for the man from Brazil.
A future move isn’t ruled out as the relationship between United and Atalanta is said to be ‘excellent’.
Unfortunately, it does seem like United will have to move away from Ederson, at least for this summer, as Atalanta have no desire to sell anytime soon.
He’s a brilliant player who’d add an awful lot of quality to this United dressing room, so I wouldn’t rule out a move in future – particularly when Casemiro leaves.
