Man United make Antony offer, player wants move

Man United have made a bid to sign Ajax star Antony, who wants a Premier League transfer.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United jet off for the start of their pre-season tour tomorrow, with only one signing officially through the door thus far.

No doubt the club are working tirelessly behind the scenes to replace the many players that have left Old Trafford this summer.

Amongst the needs is an attacker. Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani all left on free transfers. Those minutes have to be replaced.

Enter, Antony. The Brazilian, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, has often been linked with a potential switch to the Theatre of Dreams during this transfer window.

Over the last 24 hours, Goal have an update for us on that front. They state that United have made a £51m offer for the attacker. However, the Dutch side are holding out for a figure of £68m.

It’s claimed that the player himself wants the move to happen, though his current club remain hopeful that they can keep ahold of the 22-year-old.

As things stand, United’s move to sign Antony has stagnated due to the big gulf in terms of valuation. The player’s agent are ‘pressing’ the Eredivisie outfit to accept a lower offer, with the player wanting to continue his career over in England.

The bad news for United is that Antony has a contract until 2025, meaning the Dutch outfit are under no pressure to sell if they don’t want to.

Again, this is Ten Hag trying to surround himself with players he’s familiar with. United struggled in the wide areas last season, while Antony directly contributed to 22 goals in the Dutchman’s possession-based system.
