Man United make approach to sign full-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo: report

All of the sudden, Manchester United seem pretty well-stocked at full-back, right? Well, that may not be the case…

According to website Calcio Napoli 24 (translated via Sport Witness), United have made an approach for defender, Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Apparently, United have made contact with Di Lorenzo’s agent, as the Reds want more information on the Napoli man.

Calcio Napoli 24 make it clear that the Italian has become an ‘important piece’ for the Naples outfit this summer, with the right-back only having signed from Empoli just last summer. He’s under contract until 2024, so wouldn’t come cheap.

This one seems a little odd to me. Obviously, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has that right-back slot on lockdown at the moment, so we have to dig a little deeper.

Perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for a back-up. After all, we’ve seldom seen Timothy Fosu-Mensah play football over the last few seasons, while Diogo Dalot seems to perform much better when deployed as a right-winger.

Maybe Solskjaer sees Di Lorenzo as his new Ashley Young. The Englishman swapped Old Trafford for the San Siro not too long ago, with Di Lorenzo showing the capabilities of being the new Mr. Versatile due to the fact he can play all across the back line…
