Man United make ‘better’ offer than competitors in Lucas Vazquez race: report

Man United have seemingly taken charge in the race to sign Lucas Vazquez.

It’s pretty common knowledge that Manchester United Football Club are going to need some help in the attacking department when the transfer window opens. Be it up top or out wide, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some signings to make.

Today, the Old Trafford club are being linked with a move to sign Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez. The story comes from ABC, transcribed by Sport Witness earlier today.

Vazquez’s contract expires this summer, while Real Madrid are looking to make an effort to keep the winger at the club. However, it’s stated that United have made a ‘better’ offer to the player than Los Blancos, as the Reds look to sign the 29-year-old winger on a free transfer.

Details about United’s offer aren’t mentioned in-depth aside from length (four years), though the offer from Real Madrid is a three-year contract worth €3.5m-per-season. Vazquez isn’t ready to accept that offer, as he’s looking for a pay rise.

It’s stressed that Madrid’s wish is to keep ahold of Vazquez so don’t be surprised if an increased offer to the player is made, though right now, United are leading the charge.

Would a move for Vazquez make sense?

Well, the winger’s versatility is a big plus, though I don’t see him challenging Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back slot anytime soon. You would imagine the Spaniard is purely being signed to start in that right-wing role week-in-week-out.

His stats leave plenty to be desired, though, and I’m honestly not sure he’s good enough to be that go-to man out wide. Let’s just say he’s no Jadon Sancho…

I guess what makes this an attractive signing is the fact that Vazquez commands no transfer fee. In the middle of a pandemic no-less, saving that money could be massive for United. Not that the fans care about how much cash is in The Glazers’ pockets, mind…
