Over the last half-decade, I think it’s fair to say that Manchester United have strayed away from what has worked for them in the past. Now, it’s time for the Red Devils to rediscover their identity.
That’s obviously easier said than done and it will take time. Although we’re only early on in this transfer window, all the players United have been linked with are young, hungry and willing learners. I’d much prefer to see that as apposed to money-grabbing, marquee signings with a bigger flop-potential.
Today, RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi has made a bold claim. He states that United have ‘made a big offer’ to 16-year-old AS Monaco midfielder Hannibal Mejbri. Furthermore, the Reds are hoping to sign him on a free transfer.
I believe i’m in the majority when I say that I’ve never heard of Mejbri nor have I ever seen him play – but that’s exactly fine by me.
United have made their name by signing and developing young players, heck, I can count Sir Alex Ferguson’s big-name transfers on one hand.
Players signed in deals like this are allowed to play risk-free while improving at their own pace. Having that spotlight away from them is key, while the media attention is always firmly on the likes of Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez as soon as they walk through the door…
