It felt like things had gone rather quiet in regards to a potential Machester United move for Bruno Fernandes. Tonight, though, the British media are suddenly feeling far more positive about a deal going through before Friday’s deadline.
A quick Google search will show you multiple sources are picking up and running with the story, though we’ve picked out ESPN’s report as the standout; first and foremost because they’re usually super-reliable.
They state that United have made a breakthrough in their move for the 25-year-old Fernandes, while a deal is close to being finalised. The Red Devils are now confident the transfer will happen before Friday’s deadline, subject to a medical.
In terms of figures, Fernandes will cost an initial £46.6m with around £8.5m in add-ons and bonuses available. Some of those clauses are appearance-based while some are centred around Champions League qualification. The deal will also include another £12.7m based on individual achievements reached by the player. If everything is met, Fernandes could end up costing United over £67millio.
Hallelujah! It finally feels like United could be close to sealing a super-important signing before the business end of the season gets underway.
Key injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have made this addition even more vital, and to hear that Sporting Lisbon are close to sanctioning Fernandes’ departure after a breakthrough in negotiations this evening is music to my ears!
