Man United have now reached out over a potential move to sign Matthijs de Ligt.
Manchester United need to sign a new centre-half and suddenly, all attention seems to be on Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman endured a frustrating season under Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich last term.
United are now sniffing around for his signature, after presumably deciding that a move to acquire Jarrad Branthwaite would cost too much.
After covering news earlier that claimed De Ligt wants to leave Bayern this summer, Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the Dutchman’s future.
The Italian journalist took to X to claim that United have now made contact over the signing, with De Ligt among the options being considered.
What’s interesting here is that De Ligt is said to be ‘open’ to joining United, even without Champions League football on the table. Bayern ‘could sell’ their defender this summer, while the ball is now in United’s court.
Check out Fabrizio Romano’s X post on the news here:

De Ligt comes with way more experience than Branthwaite, while Erik ten Hag will be familiar with his compatriot from their time at Ajax. We know our boss loves to surround himself with players he’s comfortable with and the Dutch defender definitely fits the bill in that regard.
This feels like the perfect player to complement Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the defence. De Ligt is cool, calm and composed, while the Argentine plays with that typical South American aggression and passion.
If United could somehow pull this move off, it’d be an outstanding piece of business. Presumably, nothing concrete will happen until after the European Championship.
