Man United seemingly aren’t ready to give up on signing Ousmane Dembele just yet…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils have been linked with Ousmane Dembele before. I’m sure that rumour will continue to exist until the Frenchman moves away from FC Barcelona.
The winger, who was signed by the Camp Nou outfit for big bucks, has failed to acquit himself with the Catalan club. Now, a move away is being talked up.
The story comes from El Nacional (Spanish), who state that United have made contact over the signing of the talented 24-year-old winger.
The article states that right now, Dembele is injured though he’s expected to return to action ‘soon’. However, the winger has a contract that’s winding down. His current terms with Barca end next summer to be precise. That means the La Liga outfit will either have to cash in come January, or risk losing Dembele for free next summer.
El Nacional adds that United are using it to their advantage, with the Reds ‘starting to try their hand’ and make a move for Dembele.
Barcelona wants to retain the player, though it’s claimed they have some convincing to do to persuade Dembele to put pen to paper. Apparently, the player’s agent has met with the Catalan club recently.
Right now, this still feels like a long shot to me. Dembele is a gifted young man, who on his day, can hurt any defence in the world. The problem is his constant fitness issues. You’d imagine those problems would only worsen in a physical league like the Premier League.
If United can get him for next to nothing in January, it may be worth the risk on a short-term contract. But aside from that, I’d probably avoid giving a long-term, big-money contract to Dembele.
