Man United make contact over possible Karim Benzema move

Man United have apparently reached out over potentially making a move to sign Karim Benzema.

Manchester United Football Club have struggled for goals for large stretches this season. Rasmus Hojlund may be finding his feet, though the Dane cannot do it all on his own and he does need help.

Perhaps a move to sign a veteran striker on a short-term deal could be a shrewd piece of business. The Wout Weghorst signing last term wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, though he did make a positive impact over the second half of the season.

This time around, Karim Benzema is making the headlines in regard to a potential Old Trafford switch.

It’s Marca (h/t the MEN) with the news. They’re claiming that United are said to have made contact over a move to sign the veteran striker, with early discussions held.

The Reds aren’t the only side who have reached out, with Arsenal and his former side Lyon also in talks with the 36-year-old Frenchman.

We all know about Benzema. He’s an incredible finisher. Give him a chance. He will not miss.

There’s no doubt at this stage of his career he’s that half-yard slower, while it’s now all about using his positional awareness and overall experience.

Despite that, this is a move I just don’t see United making. Benzema earns an absolute fortune over in Saudi Arabia. United will have to pay him a hefty sum of money in order to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams – particularly while we’re struggling.

It genuinely could come down to the likes of Raphael Varane and Casemiro whispering in his ear and trying to convince the player that this would be a good move. Even then, I’m not sure they’d provide glowing reviews of their times in Manchester…
