Man United have seemingly identified Watford winger Ismaila Sarr as a potential signing this summer.
The story comes from The Independent, who state that United are ‘looking’ at Ismaila Sarr as they ‘investigate options’ beyond Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, who has been linked with United for practically the whole summer, looks likelier than ever to remain with Borussia Dortmund. Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly turning elsewhere.
According to The Independent’s headline, United have made ‘contact’ with the club about signing the 22-year-old attacker, who impressed for Watford last season.
Sarr earned admiration from ‘top clubs’ despite Watford being relegated. The Hornets will still demand at least £30million to let Sarr leave, despite them dropping into the Championship for the 2020/21 campaign.
Apparently, United ‘intermediaries’ are understood to have made initial contact. That suggests any deal is in the very early stages, with the Reds just putting the feelers out there.
Where would Sarr fit in?
First and foremost, at around £30million, Sarr would be a bargain. The young man greatly impressed last term, including netting a brilliant brace against Liverpool back in February.
He’s a player who could play all across the front line, filling in wherever United need him to. Simply put, Sarr is someone who’d be an excellent option to have off the bench – and he’ll only improve over time.
Sarr is quick, an excellent finisher, a hard-worker and pretty good at reading the situation. He’d be an asset to United, despite the fact he’s simply not Jadon Sancho.
It is about time United consider their other options, though. There’s only so long this club can get caught up chasing one player. Sure, Sancho is a world-beater, but United could go out there and get Sarr, plus an elite defender, for the same price.
