I was wondering when Manchester United would inevitably be linked with a move to sign Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison. Well, today is that day…
In an exclusive from Duncan Castles in the Daily Record, United have apparently made contact with the 22-year-old’s representatives, as the Red Devils look to rebuild their squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Apparently, Leicester City value Maddison at around the £60million mark, although the Englishman has reservations about the lack of Champions League football on offer. He’s also concerned about how much game time he’d receive at Old Trafford.
In terms of European football, Maddison has every right to be worried. United didn’t enjoy the best of season’s last time around, but this boy is a player who could make a massive impact in that regard.
Playing-time wise, Maddison would be amongst the first names on the team sheet if he played at the level he did last season. He’s an immensely gifted individual who only seems to be getting better, and dare I say it, but £60million seems extremely reasonable for a player of his quality.
With Juan Mata yet to agree on a contract extension in Manchester, Maddison could be the perfect replacement for the Spaniard – so hopefully, Edward Woodward pulls his finger out and pushes a deal over the line as soon as possible.
