Man United have looked into making a move for Southampton forward, Danny Ings.
Somewhat ironically, Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Harry Kane ever since Edinson Cavani signed a new contract. It’s weird because you’d imagine adding a new striker would be pretty low down on the list now that we know El Matador is staying.
Well, perhaps there’s some truth to United looking to find a new frontman. As the Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reckons the Red Devils are looking into a move to sign Danny Ings.
Apparently, United have made enquiries about the 28-year-old’s situation, with United ‘looking at’ Ings as a potential target during the upcoming transfer window.
Things get interesting as the star with 12 Premier League goals this season has just one year left on his deal. As of right now, there is no agreement in place for Ings to extend that deal following talks with Southampton.
Simply put, this means Ings could potentially be available on the cheap. United love a good bargain and no doubt the Englishman would be keen to prove that he deserves another shot at a top club following his unsuccessful spell at Liverpool.
Ings is a cracking player, a natural finisher and an on-field leader. It’d be a decent addition if United could sign him, though I’m not quite sure where he fits in.
As of right now, Edinson Cavani is our first-choice striker. The only way I see Ings at United is if Anthony Martial leaves. It’d also take Ings agreeing to be a back-up/rotational option. I can’t see either happening.
For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, the ideal route would be to keep Cavani for a year and go all-out to grab Erling Haaland in 2022. Ings wouldn’t be a horrendous addition, it would be underwhelming, though.
